Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. Following the time her father's departure from her family, she was grew to maturity by her mother, grandparents, and godparents. She suffered from an anxiety disorder that was rooted in words as a young toddler. Ford's love for acting grew when she was young. Ford joined at the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted into Sylvia Young Theatre School but after just one week she realized that she wasn't a good fit. Ford decided to apply instead to the Central School of Speech and Drama and was eventually offered the position she wanted on her third try. Shaun Dingwall - who later played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who was also one of her classmates. Ford was able to graduate in 1993. She already made a TV appearance on a show in 1992 called Surgical Spirit. She adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate was on television in the Nineties with shows such as The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. The regular theatre work she performed has led to her joining The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 season. Tate began to gain attention because of her stand-up comedic performances in 1996.
