Linda Edna Cardellini was born in Redwood City, California, to Lorraine (Hernan) and Wayne David Cardellini, a businessman. Her parents are of Italian heritage (her paternal grandpa), Irish, German, English and Scottish (her mother). Linda was the youngest of four children in San Francisco Bay, California. The acting bug grew in her when she was ten years old when she played a role in a singing role for a school's annual Christmas production. Her career began in the year 2010 when she appeared in the British television series Just William, in which she studied at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Cinderella was her breakout performance following her appearance playing the character Lady Rose MacClare, in Downton Abbey's period drama (2012-2015). James was later cast as the the role of Countess Natasha Rostova, in the version on television of War & Peace, in 2016. She also appeared in a number of films. They include the action movie Baby Driver (2017) and the period dramas Darkest Hour (2017) and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (2018 and 2021) and the musicals Mamma Mia! We Go Again 2018 and Yesterday (2019). Pam & Tommy, a biographical TV series that is based on the life of Pamela Anderson (released in 2022) was nominated for Golden Globe Award winner and an Primetime Emmy Award.
